(x) Edward 'the Confessor' (1042-1066), 'Pointed Helmet' Type, 1053-1056, Cricklade, Leofræd, + EDPAR• D REX, draped bust right, wearing pointed helmet, cross-tipped sceptre before, rev. + LEOFR•ED ON CROC : voided short cross with triple-crescent terminals and central annulet, 1.31g [20.22grns], 3h (Willett, NumChron [1876], pp. 323-394; Hildebrand F; SCBI -; FEJ 232 this coin; North 825; BMC VII [Coll. no. 153 and Pl. xxiii, no. 7, same dies]; S.1179), softly struck to peripheries, otherwise with rainbow cabinet toning, almost extremely fine courtesy of exquisite fine portrait detailing, an extremely rare mint, especially so for this type and with a 'flawless' pedigree

Out of 2,829 coins examined by Willett in 1876, only eight were of the Cricklade mint; from which just one, almost certainly the present coin, was found to be of the moneyer Leofræd. A similar profile was found in the Chancton Farm (1867) trove.
