D.C.M. London Gazette 11 December 1916:
'For conspicuous gallantry in action. He crawled forward under heavy fire and bombed a dug-out in which [there] were some enemy snipers, killing two of them and capturing the remainder. Later, he organised his company and established a dressing stations'
Elijah Roper enlisted into the 6th Battalion, King's Liverpool Regiment in May 1908. He disembarked on the Western Front on 24 February 1915 with B Company. He was promoted Sergeant on 30 April 1915 and re-engaged for four years in August 1916. When promoted to Acting Warrant Officer Class II, Roper served under the second service number 240049 and later, with the 7th Battalion.
