(x) Ashanti 1900 (806 Pte Chisali. 2nd C. Africa Regt), polished with verdigris, thus fine
Chisali served with the 2nd Battalion, Central Africa Regiment. The regiment were based in Nyasaland and when the uprising broke out in Kumasi, they were moved across the continent to West Africa to help suppress the Ashanti rebellion. While it was common for colonial units to operate locally, the Central Africa Regiment were deployed across Africa a number of times. After the war, the regiment became part of the King's African Rifles and they made up the first two battalions. Thus the regiment existed for only a very short amount of time, around 6 years. Raised in 1896 as the British Central African Rifles, it was renamed to the Central Africa Rifles in 1898, and then the Central Africa Regiment the following year before being absorbed into the King's African Rifles in 1902.
