(x) Ashantee 1873-74, no clasp (H. C. Bleach, Gunr R.M.A. H.M.S. Druid. 73-74), very fine
Henry Charles Bleach was born at Chidham, Chichester in October 1853 and was a labourer before he enlisted into the Royal Marine Artillery at Eastney Barracks on 3 October 1871. He served on Druid between 12 August 1873 - 5 February 1874 during the Ashantee campaign of 1873-74 but was not entitled to the Coomassie clasp, his service record notes 'Invalided'. He was promoted to Bombardier on 27 September 1875, Corporal on 14 October 1876 and to Sergeant on 4 September 1883. He remained with the service until he was discharged on 8 February 1893. Despite his service record noting very good service throughout he does not appear to be awarded a Long Service medal.
