Charles Alfred Baboneau was born on 9 October 1891 and first served during the Great War on the Western Front on 14 November 1915 serving with the 18th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers. Baboneau was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 6 July 1916 and served with the 10th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. He transferred to the 7th Battalion and was admitted to the 31st Ambulance Train on 18 October 1917 suffering from a stomach ulcer. Transported home on the Grantully Castle, he was admitted to Queen Alexandra's Military Hospital at Millbank, London from 21-26 November 1918. He is further entitled to a Silver War Badge (B.80764) which was approved on 18 March 1919 and at this time he was living at 38 St. Petersburgh Place, London W2.
His Medal Index Card has him living in Kenya C/O B. E. Adoc Ltd, Kericho, British East Africa, for he went out farming following the Great War. Appointed to the Education Department in Kericho Dominion, during the Second World War he was Education Officer of the Arab Education Department. Baboneau died on 3 March 1968 and is buried at Hatch Beauchamp, Taunton Deane, Somerset.
