Approximately 70 Medals with these 2 clasps to the Barfleur, of a total of just 299 Medals with these 2 clasps to the entire British Naval & Marine Forces.

Walter Pankhurst was born in February 1873 at London and was a grocer's assistant upon his joining the Royal Marines Light Infantry in April 1890. Posted to the Barfleur from October 1898-January 1902, he served with her on and off the shores of China during the Boxer Rebellion of 1900. It was during that conflict that Pankhurst was landed as a Bluejacket and shared in the small contingent of men from the ship that participated in the storming of the Taku Forts on 16-17 June 1900.

Discharged ashore in February 1903, Pankhurst returned to the fold during the Great War and was posted to Vulcan from June 1915. He died at home with his wife at 16 Page Street, Westminster, London on 10 January 1916 and is buried in the Wandsworth (Earlsfield) Cemetery.
