D.C.M. London Gazette 3 June 1915.

'For gallant leading in the attack at Neuve Chapelle on 12th March, 1915, and subsequently for his gallant conduct in collecting the wounded in front of our trenches'

Arthur Frederick Bellringer was born in Tottenham and enlisted at Woolwich on 7 November 1914, serving with the 2nd Battalion, Rifle Brigade (The Prince Consort's Own) under the service number 662. He was awarded the D.C.M for gallantry at Neuve Chapelle on 12 March 1915 but died two months later on 18 May from wounds. The battle produced a number of individuals who were awarded the Victoria Cross, including two men from the 2nd Battalion, Rifle Brigade, Corporal Cecil Noble and Company Sergeant-Major Harry Daniels. The unit these men were in was ordered to advance on the German trenches across no man's land which was covered by machine guns and strewn with barbed wire. The two men voluntarily rushed in front with cutters and attacked the wires, both receiving wounds in the process in which Noble later succumbed. Bellringer could well have observed the gallantry, and like Noble, also succumbed to his wounds. Bellringer is buried in Netley Military Cemetery, Hampshire.
