Crimea 1854-56, 4 clasps, Alma, Balaklava, Inkermann, Sebastopol (Corpl W. Greening. 4th Lt Dragns.), officially impressed naming, lugs removed from top clasp, otherwise toned, some light edge bruising and contact marks, otherwise very fine

William Greening was born at Pomasaver, Bridport, Dorset and was a labourer before he attested into the 4th Light Dragoons (Hussars) at Salisbury on 22 December 1834 and served with the regiment in the Ghuznee campaign of 1839. Greening was tried by Court Martial on 25 March 1847 and was sentenced to 20 days imprisonment. Confirmed as serving at Alma and then at Balaklava on 25 October 1854, Inkermann on 5 November 1854 and finally at Sebastopol on 8 September 1855. He was promoted to Corporal on 1 December 1855. He was discharged on 16 October 1860, having completed 25 years and 276 days service, he intended to live at 22 York Street, Hulme Manchester. His service papers confirm he was in possession of 5 good conduct badges, a medal for Ghuznee and the Crimea and Turkish medals.
Confirmed in Lummis & Wynn as in receipt of the Medal and 4 clasps, he does not however appear in Roy Dutton's publication.
