Waterloo 1815, fitted with smaller replacement steel clip and ring suspension (Norman Gilles Drummer, 1st. Bat. 92nd Highlanders), some light edge bruising and contact marks otherwise very fine

Ex-Colonel R. T. Gascoigne Collection, March 1909.

11 Drummers served with the 92nd (Gordon) Highlanders at Waterloo.

Norman Gilles originally served as a Boy with the 92nd Highlanders until April 1809, when he was transferred to the men's establishment as a Drummer. He sailed for Portugal in September 1810 and shared in the Peninsular War. Gilles served in France and Belgium and was present at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, when he served in Captain Ferrier's Company. Gilles spent several days in solitary confinement in 1816 and 1817 and then served on detachment from the regiment from 24 April-25 September 1817. He was then to serve in Jamaica between 1819-20, however he deserted from the Regiment on 1 October 1821 and was given up.

His surname erroneously appears as Gillis in the Muster and Supplementary Rolls.
