Waterloo 1815, fitted with steel clip and replacement straight bar suspension (Serj. John Cook, 6th or Inniskilling Drag.), a couple of small edge bruises and some light contact marks, otherwise very fine, possibly better
John Cook was born at St. Stephen's, Norwich, Norfolk and was a blacksmith by trade. He attested into the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons at Norwich on 27 November 1795. Serving with William F. Hadden's Troop at Waterloo he suffered a wound to his left arm during the battle: the 6th, along with the 1st (Royal) Regiment of Dragoons and the 2nd Dragoons (the famous 'Scots Greys'), made up the Union Brigade which made their famous charge at the crisis point of the action.
Cook later suffered a rupture, caused by a kick from a horse, on 9 February 1816 when he was stationed at Wilton, Wiltshire; this eventually resulted in his discharge on 25 August 1818.
