A LARGE WOODEN COLLECTOR'S CABINET

Wooden Collector's Cabinet, c. 1880-1920, with 21 drawers [16 single depth, 5 double], opening to reveal black lined trays to display coins, medals, or other small collectables, on the front is a mounted wooden plaque depicting the Lamb of Gold above a shield with two birds (eagles or phoenixes) atop towers, all surrounded by a ribbon with a Greek inscription that translates to: IF YOU ACT JUSTLY, YOU WILL GAIN GOD AS YOUR COMPANION, comes with individual white labels and screws stating certain countries for the user to attach to the drawers aligning with their collecting interests.
On 4 feet, 44.5cm x 68cm x 136cm.

The symbols on the front of the cabinet strongly imply inspiration from the Byzantine Empire, possibly originally commissioned by a collector who had an interest in the moral and theological meanings of ancient coinage, there are some signs of wear and tear, scratches/staining to the exterior, with occasional areas of damage especially about the inlays, to be expected with a well-loved piece such as this, otherwise perfectly useable, an attractive and contemporary antique, worthy of an impressive collection, very fine.
