(x) A trio of Zulu War manuscript letters, from members of the 24th Regiment of Foot

A pair of letters from No. 1283 Sergeant J. Coffey, 2/24th Regiment of Foot, dated 24 October 1878 and 20 June 1879, the first relating experiences from the campaign up to that point, the second '...my last chance as we are on the eve of a great battle from which it is difficult to tell who may escape.'

A letter from No. 1327 Private C. Maggs, 'C' Company, 2/24th Regiment of Foot, dated 9 July 1880, from Casemate Barracks, Gibraltar, relating the desertion and punishment sent down to Sergeant Coffey, very fine and good first-hand accounts written from the field (3)
