Samuel Hopwood served on the Western Front as a Lance Corporal with the Canadian Infantry Battalion in the Central Ontario Regiment. Sometime between 17 - 25 September 1916, he sustained a gunshot flesh wound to his chest and recuperated in number 18 Camiers General Hospital for seven days.
