William Pillsworth was born at Eagle, Lincolnshire on 3 August 1895, he joined the 6th Battalion initially but was later posted to the 2nd Battalion, serving with them when he first won his laurels. He was later taken Prisoner of War at Haplincourt on 25 May 1918, repatriated after the armistice he was demobilised on 14 April 1919.
