J. M. B. Zeiss enlisted into the Natal Volunteer Ambulance Corps on 9 December 1899 and was discharged on 12 March 1900. He also appeared on the roll of the Imperial Bearer Company with the rank of bearer it also confirms his enlistment and discharge dates. He appears on the roll for the K.S.A. as a Guide with the Field Intelligence Department which also makes reference of the above two units.
