Edward Sayers was born at Pulborough, Sussex in 1843 and enlisted with the 53rd Regiment of Foot on 5 January 1867. Still with the unit upon its amalgamation to form the Shropshire Light Infantry Sayers joined the unit in Suakin in 1885. He served from February through to May, returning to Britain Sayers was discharged in April 1888; sold together with copied service papers.
