King George V Issues
1911-12 'Downey Head' Issues
½d. Die 1A, an imperforate example in the issued colour, affixed to a thick card (105x141mm.), showing typewritten "confidential/specimen for colour george v/½d. unified stamp", signed "Seymour Bennett" and with purple "stamping/ department/17 may 1911" handstamp adjacent. It is believed that this is the actual colour standard used by Harrison & Sons, and that the rectangular portion of the card cut away at left was to allow it to be placed over a sheet of stamps to compare the colour. The card with some slight stain spotting though in no way detracting from the most important item.
