Perkins Bacon

BH-CL Perkins Bacon perforation trial marginal block of ten, from Plate 10, perf. 11-12½, part to large part original gum. An extraordinary, unique rarity, this being the largest recorded block of three known examples. S.G. 16var

Notes: An adjoining strip of five (DH-DL) was offered as lot 626 in "Daisy", Christie's Robson Low, Oct. 1996 where it was described as "Status Unknown". There also exists a block of four on cover in the Royal Philatelic Collection. We known now that the Perkins Bacon perforation trials used the balance of an imperforate Plate 10 sheet used on 1841 Postal Notices. Stamps perf. 11-12½ were only used in the early 1860s for stamps of Antigua, Bahamas, Barbados and Grenada.
