Postal History
1658 (4 Sept.) entire letter from Josephy Smythe, a prisoner in Poultry Comptor, the Sheriff's prison near Grocers Hall Court in London, addressed "To Mr. Henry Brandriff Esq., care present at his house in Wallbrooke" in which he mentions the Magna Carta. Smythe signs as a "Distressed Petitioner". Letters from prisoners are unusual and this is a nice example of this Commonwealth post.
