Official Mail
1847 (Apr.) cover from Prime Minister Jung Bahadar to King Rajendra at Sangauli bearing a superb strike of his large oval seal in black. The summary, probably written by an official in Katmandu reads, "No minister has ever signed (a long letter with senseless demands) - how can I sign it and forward it to you - after this reply you once again asked ne to sign on the same, not only this you attempted to cheat me. In the past you wished to enthrone Surrendra. If you send the red seal letter to the same effect, I shall immediately sign on your condition and sent it to you". A very important letter and these early seals of Jung Bahadar are extremely scarce. Photo
Note Jung wished that Rajendra should return to Nepal. In March 1847 Rajendra demanded that the command of the troops should be made over to him, his return was contingent on compliance with the requisition. In all probability this letter was the reply to his demand
