1857 (?) an important letter to King Surendra Bikram of Nepal from the two Amban of Lhasa which includes, "... We have received your letter ... and noted the contents ... we are really very pleased that you are so loyal to the Emperor. We think ... the British do not know the might of our Emperor... Today the British are not doing good in Kwangtang - whenever our Emperor will order the Army to march - they will march like black sky and we will win within no time. British has come here to die - please be assured. Please live with your neighbours in peace ...". This letter appears to acknowledge the early days f the Second Opium War. Photo
