Lot: 167

Ireland, Great Rebellion, Issues of the Confederated Catholics, Kilkenny Money, Farthing, 1642-1643, inscription starts at 7 o'clock, [C]AR . D . G . M[A]G . BR[I.], crown on crossed sceptres and a single beaded circle outside inscription, rev. FRA . ET [HIB . REX], crowned harp and a single beaded circle outside inscription, 2.03g, m.m. [?] (DF 265; S.6556) on a nonagonal flan with striking spilt and associated flan fold at 1-2 o'clock on obverse, some digs or corrosion on reverse but the devices mostly clear and overall in the top half of the ten specimens known to the cataloguer, for the issue good fine, its valuation in the Standard Catalogue notwithstanding the key denomination of the 1642 Confederated Catholic coinage, rarer than the Halfcrown and rarer by far than the Halfpenny
