Ireland temp. Edward IV, "Autonomous Issues of the Ungoverned Mints", Light Issue, Groat, c. 1472-77, Limerick, (m.m.) EDWA[RDVS : ] DEI : GRA : DnS : hVBERnI, rosette colons, crowned bust facing, pierced rosettes or mullets by neck, L below bust rev. (m.m.) POSVI DEVM ADIVTORE MEVM // CIVITAS * LIMIRICI, long cross and trio of pellets in angles, rosette in place of inner pellet in second and third quarters, 1.77g, 9h, m.m. plain cross / rosette (Whyte's, 24 September 2011, lot 635 same dies; Mac Conamhna, 'The Limerick Mint: 1463-c.1476' [BNJ, 2024] pp. 111-143, dies O1/R13-3 [1 Recorded]; DF 134; S.6380A [6343]), scar at 10 o'clock and the flan lightly clipped, otherwise strictly fine, and very rare with only one die duplicate recorded by Mac Conamhna in his recent corpus; an important survivor from a tumultuous period in Anglo-Irish numismatics thus, struck quite literally 'beyond the pale'

The type was previously given by Mac Conamhna (Coins of Scotland, Ireland and the Islands, Spink, 2020), to the 1465-1467 Coinage (S.6309A), but has been subsequently revised by the same author to the Ungoverned period of operation in the 1470s.
