Plantagenet Lords of Ireland, Prince John (1177-1199), Second Coinage, Round Halfpenny, 'Count de Mortain' Type, struck after 20 July 1189, Dublin, Rodberd, + IOHANNES DEM, diademed head facing with half side curls, rev. + RODBERD ON DW, voided cross potent with annulets in angles, pellet in the second third and fourth angle and in each annulet, 0.75g, 10h (O'Sullivan [1964], dies 9/11 [Rodberd] same reverse die; cf. Ulster Museum 57; S.6206), struck on a broad flan, field tone with organic deposits in recesses, otherwise a really bold fine / near very fine, and presumed struck after Prince John's gift of the County of Mortain in July 1189, very rare
