4c. black on blue cut octagonally, small to good margins, initialled "E.D.W.", cancelled by Berbice double-arc d.s. for Nov. 20 1856, used on piece, showing alongside coded "A 3 C" d.s. Some usual faults including creasing and the usual surface disturbances, painted in places, though of fine appearance. Only about a dozen used examples are known. One of the rarest stamps of the British Empire and a major worldwide philatelic rarity, with fewer than twenty recorded in both used and unused condition -including those not held in private collections-, made even more significant by belonging to this highly important and charismatic issue..
