1886 (16 Feb.) envelope (small faults) ex the Crawford correspondence from Ireland to Vryburg bearing G.B. 1881 1d. lilac (2) and 1883-14 6d. green tied by Ballyshannon "55" duplex and showing handstruck "2" in red which has been crossed through in blue crayon, the reverse bearing Cape Town (31.3) and Vryburg (6.4) c.d.s. A good cover, the 8d. through rate was introduced on 1st January 1886, previously the rate was 6d. to the Cape with the recipient paying the additional 2d. Photo

Note: The Bechuanaland Border Police was an Imperial unit formed at Barkly West in August 1885 under Col. Carrington as a successor of Warren's force. Besides carrying out police duties and assisting with the postal service, they also saw action in the 1893 Matabeleland War as part of the Shangani Patrol
