(x) Edward the Confessor (1042-1066), 'Small Flan' Type, Penny, 1048-1050, Winchester, Ælfwine, + EDPRD E, diademed bust left, no sceptre or inner circle, with six pellets on sleeve of drapery to edge of flan, dividing legend, rev. + ÆLFPINE ON PINCS, NC ligated, short cross voided with pellet in centre, 1.12g [17.28grns], 6h (Hildebrand B; EMC 1998.0109; SCBI 52 [Uppsala], 634; North 818; BMC II; S.1175), flat strike on jaw and neck of bust, otherwise lightly toned, about very fine, an extremely rare type for this moneyer
