William Jenkins, a native of Ammanford, Wales enlisted in the 8th Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers and entered the war at Gallipoli on 28 July 1915. The 8th Battalion returned to Gallipoli landing at Anzac Cove between 3-5 August and were in action at the battles of Sari Bair, Russell's Top and Hill 60.
Jenkins was one of the unfortunate combatants to have survived the dreadful battles only to succumb to illness. He died at sea on 18 August 1915 onboard the S.S. Valdire of typhoid, presumably having been evacuated for treatment in Malta after a prolonged illness, he is buried at Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta; sold together with copied research.
