Charles Ernest Bonfield was born in Stepney in 1899, enlisted in November 1916 and during the Great War served in France with the 18th (County of London) Battalion, London Regiment (London Irish Rifles), 16th Battalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps and the City of London Rifles. Discharged in March 1919, he died in Wandsworth in 1970; sold together with his original damaged Certificate of Demobilization.
