Frederick Cox was born on 17 September 1896 at Morton, Lincoln, and later worked as an engine cleaner. Cox enlisted with the Royal Marines Light Infantry, Chatham Division on 10 February 1916 at Birmingham. He served with his Regiment through the rest of the Great War and was discharged and enrolled into the Royal Fleet Reserve on 9 May 1920. Cox was eventually discharged from the Royal Fleet Reserve due to unexplained medical unfitness on 6 May 1926; sold together with copied records.
Cox is further entitled to an Africa General Service Medal with a clasp for Somaliland, which he received on 11 November 1921.
