Alexander Smart was born at Kirkaldy, Scotland in 1897. Enlisting in the Royal Field Artillery he entered the Balkans theatre with the Royal Field Artillery on 28 October 1915. He was invalided to hospital in Cairo in March 1918 with a suspected case of malaria; sold with copied research.
