A total of 166 Gambia 1894 clasps to H.M.S. Satellite.
William Booley was born at Valland, Cornwall on 5 October 1860 and enlisted with the Royal Navy on 5 October 1876 as Boy 2nd Class with the number 97776. Reaching his majority with Iron Duke on 15 October 1878 he rose quickly through the ranks, being advanced Petty Officer Class II in November 1884 with Shannon and appointed Gun Captain the next month.
Appointed Captain of the Mizzen Top of Cambridge in 1886 Booley joined Flamingo the next year as Captain of the Fore Top. Advanced Petty Officer Class I in November 1888 Booley was promoted Bosun on 26 May 1891.
It was with this rank that he served aboard H.M.S. Satellite during the Gambia expedition. Booley continued to serve in this commissioned rank until he was advanced Chief Bosun on 1 April 1912. After two more years of service he was pensioned on 30 September 1914, he died on 14 July 1915.
