(x) Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, 1 clasp, Tel-El-Kebir (W. Hallams. Pte. R****), Regiment naming obscured due to wear, pitting, good fine

William Hallams was born on 11 October 1860 in Derbyshire and worked as a collier prior to his enlistment with the Royal Marines on 11 July 1879 at Birmingham. He was awarded his Egypt and Sudan Medal, as well as a Khedive's Star, on 19 April 1883.

Hallams rose through the ranks up to Sergeant in 1894, but reverted to Private in August 1897 for unknown reasons. He later again became a Corporal in 1898 and in this rank enrolled in the Royal Fleet Reserve on 3 June 1901, and underwent training at Plymouth from 8 July 1901. Upon reaching the age of 50 on 11 October 1910, Hallams was discharged from the Reserve and received a pension; sold together with original documentation.
