(x) Cape of Good Hope General Service 1880-97, 2 clasps, Transkei, Basutoland (Lt. H. A. Hillier. Baker's Hse.), very fine
Henry Augustus Hillier was born in Ireland in 1858 and served in the Frontier Armed & Mounted Police (No. 558) during the Gaika and Gaeleka operations of 1877-78. Afterwards, he wrote to the government and requested an appointment in the Forces in the Colony and was appointed a Lieutenant in the Herschel Native Levies in October 1880. Hillier thence served in operations in the Artillery Troop of Baker's Horse (Medal & 2 clasps). He married Louise at Beira and died in east London in February 1920.
