South Africa 1834-53 (S. Lacy. 90th Regt.), contact marks and edge bruising, otherwise very fine

Stephen Lacy was born in Chelsea, London, and worked as a gardener prior to enlisting there with the 90th Regiment, aged 16, on 3 April 1833. He was promoted Sergeant in 1838 and was reduced to the ranks in 1846, but by 1848 he had been again advanced Sergeant. Lacy was later treated in hospital and eventually discharged in 1856, his 'constitution broken through length of service'. He is recorded as having served for nearly four years in Ceylon, and for two at the Cape of Good Hope. His name is spelt Lacey in his service records; sold together with copied research.
