Geoffrey Richard Goodwin was born on 24 February 1922 and had previously had six years of Cadet Training and served as an Articled Clerk before enlisting into the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve on 1 March 1941.
He was drafted to DEMS Felania ex R.N.V.R. Base at Cape Town and had DEMS Rating in the Mediterranean and East Africa from June 1941 until February 1942, seeing service at Port Said. Goodwin was seconded to the Royal Navy on 11 September 1942 and served with the 104th Motor Launch Flotilla in West Africa (Freetown) from January 1943 to May 1944. He spent time in the U.K. between August 1944 and April 1945 before seeing service with the 43rd Motor Launch Flotilla in the Mediterranean from April 1945 until September 1945. He was released from full time service on 5 March 1946.

(ii) Postage packet for his medals addressed to him at The Mushroom, Hiddingh Avenue, Newlands, Cape Town.
A matching set of miniature medals, mounted as worn.
Copied service papers which confirm medal entitlement, these being sent to him in June 1955.
