Clarence G. Pierce accordingly to the copy of the newspaper article was a native of Kalamazoo, he was given the award for gallantry in action in Germany, during which time he was a Tank Company Commander. Tanks under his command were among the first to cross the river Roer and to enter and capture Cologne. It also noted the award of the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat. He was the son of Earl Pierce of Ann Arbor and Petoskey, and had lived at 208 West North Street, Kalamazoo with his wife Jeanette Pierce; sold together with the following archive comprising:
