(x) An M.S.M. to Sergeant Major J. Holohan, 81st Foot
Army Meritorious Service Medal, E.VII.R. (S. Mjr: J. Holohan. 81/Foot), good very fine
John Holohan was born at St. Kitts, West Indies, attesting for the 81st Foot at Fermoy, Cork on 4 June 1853 and served as a Drummer at the Indian Mutiny with a total served for nearly 16 years in the East Indies and had nearly 5 years service in Gibraltar.
He was awarded his Army L.S. & G.C. in August 1878. Holohan was discharged at Netley on 1 April 1879 and intended to live in Leicester and was awarded his Meritorious Service Medal in 1909. He appeared on the 1911 census living at 273 Oldam Road, Failsworth and died in January 1913.
