The Great War M.M. group of three awarded to Company Sergeant-Major J. Beech, 11th (Accrington) Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment

Joshua Beech was a native of Oldham, Lancashire he entered the war as Warrant Officer Class II at some stage after 1916. Stationed with the 11st (Accrington) Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment they saw extremely heavy fighting at the Battle for Serre in 1916 where they lost 700 men in a single day. The Battalion remained in France, seeing more savage fighting with 2nd Lieutenant Basil Horsfall winning the V.C. on 21 March 1918. Beech won the M.M. while serving as Company Sergeant-Major and was discharged on 24 April 1919 returning to Oldham.
