M.M. London Gazette 2 February 1918.
Clarence Burton Anderson was born at Comber, Ontario on 3 December 1892, the son of Mr C. M. Anderson of Lemington, Ontario. Working as a Chauffeur he enlisted at Windsor on 1 November 1915 with the 70th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force.
Arriving in England in May 1916 he was posted to the 39th Battalion in France in September. Anderson joined the 21st Battalion only a month after arriving and served with them for the rest of the war. Advanced Sergeant on 30 August 1917 he was awarded the Military Medal in early 1918. The Battalion had been engaged at Passchendaele during the second half of 1917 and the award is very likely for his actions there.
Wounded in the left arm on 27 August 1918, Anderson was sent to No. 8 Canadian Field Ambulance and from there went to 2nd Canadian Casualty Clearing Station, Ville de Liege. He was demobilised in Ontario on 5 February 1919; sold together with copied service papers and a London Gazette extract.
