Francis John Grimshaw was born on 21 March 1894 at Farnborough, Hampshire and was a shoemaker's boy by trade upon his joining the Royal Navy on 6 January 1910. During the Great War he served aboard Petunia from 12 May 1916-15 November 1918, when he was discharged dead. Grimshaw is one of four members of her crew to lose their life during the Great War and is buried in the Mazargues War Cemetery, Marseilles.
