James McIver was born at Rosskeen, Invergordon and attested into the Seaforth Highlanders on 4 August 1887. He served in Malta from 26 January 1897 - 4 January 1898 and from there he served in Egypt from 5 January 1898 - 31 January 1903 before going to the East Indies serving from 1 February 1903 - 12 March 1907. Renturning home and was discharged at his own request at Gosport for the first time on 29 March 1907. He served in the Great War and is entitled to the British War and Victory Medal pair, he was also 243613 Highland Light Infantry as well as serving in the Royal Scots Fusiliers with the rank of Sergeant.
