Whitty. 12/Lrs.); British War and Victory Medals (L-4553 Cpl. J. Whitty. 12-Lrs.), mounted as worn, good very fine (4)

John Whitty was born at Wareham, Swanage, Dorset. He had previous served with the 3rd V.B. Royal Sussex Regiment. Whitty enlisted at Aldershot on 11 November 1898 and served in South Africa from 19 January 1901 - 21 September 1902 and from there he was posted to India from 22 September 1902 - 25 January 1907. He returned home and was placed on the Army Reserve from 28 January 1908 - 4 August 1914. Whitty was then placed on the 5 August 1914 - 14 August 1914 and was then sent to France as part of the British Expeditionary Force between 15 August 1914 - 23 November 1917. He returned Home on the following day and remained at Home for the duration of the War, seeing a brief period of service in the Royal Field Artillery but transferred shortly afterwards to the 1st Reserve Cavalry Regiment. Whitty was transferred to Class Z on 31 March 1919.
