William Sawyer Watts was born at Easton, Winchester, and attested into the Scots Guards on 1 March 1899. Serving in South Africa between 15 March 1900 - 27 October 1902, he transferred to the Army Reserve on 1 November 1902 and was finally discharged on 28 February 1911.
