Walter Charles Kemp was born in Penzance in July 1857 and joined the Royal Engineers at Bodmin on 12 June 1877. Besides active service in Egypt and Sudan, Kemp served in India and Nova Scotia, where he was to meet his wife. Kemp was discharged at Chatham on 15 August 1895 and returned to his native Penzance to become a postman at St Buryan; sold together with original Parchment Certificate of Character and Parchment Certificate of Discharge.
