The Q.S.A. awarded to Acting Bombardier D. Turner, Royal Field Artillery and Royal Artillery Mounted Rifles, who served with the Army Service Corps in the Great War and died of bronchitis on 26 May 1918

David Turner was born at West Bromich, Staffordshire and enlisted with the Royal Field Artillery on 18 November 1899. Serving in South Africa from 10 May 1902 he was attached to the Royal Artillery Mounted Rifles and remained there after the end of the Second Boer War, transferring to the Army Service Corps on 2 November 1903.

Turner served at Kromstadt between 29 March 1904-31 August 1904 on General Duties and was then sent to Harrismith from 6 September 1904-17 October 1907 carrying out the work of a Deputy Cook and General Duties. He was transferred to Army Reserve on 20 November 1907 at Gosport, having reached the rank of 2nd Corporal.

Re-engaging into the Army Service Corps on 17 November 1911 for a further 4 years service he was promoted to Corporal on 5 August 1914 and was mobilised at Aldershot on 7 August 1914. Turner saw service overseas in France from 13 August 1914, being promoted to Sergeant on 1 January 1915. He was attached to both the 4th and 6th Field Bakeries in France throughout his Great War Service.

Further advanced Acting Staff Sergeant on 18 May 1916 Turner returned Home on 25 April 1918. He was admitted to the Northern General Hospital, Lincoln with Bronchitis and died on 26 May 1918, he is remembered at the Erdington (St.Barnabas) Churchyard.
