Robert Bayly Robertson was born at St. Paul's Bristol and attested with the Cheshire Regiment, having previously been serving with the 1st Volunteer Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment, on 22 January 1900. Robertson served in South Africa between 16 February 1900 - 28 April 1901 and was discharged on 30 April 1901.

He is additionally entitled to the South Africa 1901 clasp.
