(x) An unusual Q.S.A. awarded to 3rd Trooper E. H. Paton, 'C' (Eastern) Division, South African Constabulary, who died at Pretoria in 1902, leaving behind an interesting collection of photographs

Ernest Hugh Paton was a native of Canada living in South Africa at the time of the Anglo-Boer War. He attested with 'C' (Eastern) Division, South African Constabulary with the number 1529 but died of disease at Pretoria on 2 May 1902. Buried in the Church Street Cemetery he is also commemorated upon the Bloemfontein Zoo memorial. Paton must have taken a camera with him to South Africa as his medal is accompanied by a number of photographs. Several depict him while some others are annotated images of other soldiers of places; sold together with a collection of photographs as well as copied research Veterans Affairs Canada printouts and medal rolls.
