Verified on the roll as one of only 45 single Belfast clasps issued to the Regiment.
John Frederick Bingley was born at Sheffield, Yorkshire in 1868. Attesting for the 3rd Leicestershire Regiment on 22 September 1885 he listed previous work as a Labourer. Posted first to Bermuda on 9 September 1888 he was transferred to Halifax Nova Scotia on 28 February 1891 and from thence to the West Indies on 25 March 1893 finally returning home in January 1894. Seeing Home service he was discharged on 4 January 1898 and remained there until being called up for further service in the Anglo Boer War. Bingley served attached to the 1st Battalion Leicestershire Regiment but caught enteric fever and died at Manchberg on 11 September 1900. He is commemorated in the Regimental Chapel Memorial.
