Alexander Dehors Main was an 18-year-old barber from Soho, London when he enlisted in the 50th Foot on 17 November 1871. He was present with the 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment at the Battle of Ginnis, the last confirmed action when the British wore Red Coats to battle. Main was discharged on 2 April 1894 and is entitled to the Khedive's Star; sold together with copied service papers.
